Artwork stolen during exhibition opening party at New York’s Whitney Museum
Artwork believed to be value in excess of $1,000 was reportedly stolen through a occasion at a New York museum.
New York law enforcement had been knowledgeable about the theft on 24 May, pretty much two months following the evening in issue at the Whitney Museum of American Art.
The Whitney Biennial exhibition is held at the museum each two decades and is keenly watched thanks to its showcase of up to date art.
The artwork was allegedly taken out from the museum on 30 March, the night of the an exhibition opening celebration for museum members, according to a report by Artnet.
The museum verified the incident in a assertion to the outlet, saying that “an Component of a Biennale artwork set up [was] uncovered lacking. It has been found and is in the museum’s possession”, with no offering even further facts.
Three artists present at the occasion instructed Artnet they weren’t informed of the theft at the time.
A police report said the artwork was stolen right from the museum.
